what we collect and why
- your email, if you join the night list. we use it only to email you about raven, such as when longer conversations open. legal basis: your consent.
- your chat messages, which are sent to our AI provider to generate raven's replies. we don't store your conversations on our servers. please don't share sensitive personal details in chat. legal basis: providing the service you asked for.
- a scrambled (hashed) version of your internet address and a random visitor id, used to apply the free message limit. deleted automatically after 24 hours. legal basis: our legitimate interest in preventing abuse and keeping the service affordable.
- anonymous visit counts, such as how many people start a chat or reach the end, so we can see what people enjoy. these are counts tied to a random id, not to your name or email. you can opt out using the notice shown on your first visit, or by clearing this site's data in your browser. legal basis: legitimate interest.
what's stored in your browser
we don't use advertising or tracking cookies. this site stores a few small items in your browser: tonight's conversation (so a refresh doesn't lose it), a random visitor id, and your choices (age confirmation, whether you've seen the storage notice, and whether visit counting is off). you can clear them at any time in your browser settings.
who processes your data for us
- Anthropic (AI provider, USA): generates raven's replies from your messages.
- Vercel (website hosting, USA): runs the site and keeps short-term technical logs.
- Upstash (database): stores night list emails, message counters and visit counts.
how long we keep it
night list emails: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, and no longer than 2 years after the last email we send you. message-limit data: 24 hours. visit counts: anonymous totals, kept while the site runs.
your rights
under UK data protection law, you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, withdraw your consent, or object to how we use it. email ravenvioletvale@gmail.com and we'll respond within one month. you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
